The history of Ukraine is a complex and dynamic narrative shaped by its unique geographical position at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. The territory known today as Ukraine has long been a contact zone between diverse civilizations, from the ancient Scythians to the Greeks, Byzantines, and various nomadic peoples. The formation of the Kyivan Rus’ in the 9th century marks a pivotal chapter in Ukrainian history. Centered in Kyiv, this powerful state became a major cultural and political force in Eastern Europe.
